Violent Radicalisation and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act

In another act of bi-partisan co-operation, the Violent Radicalisation and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act, or HR 1955 passed the House by an overwhelming majority vote of 405 to 6. The bill now rests upon the desk of Senator Joe Lieberman for approval, and will no doubt be signed into law by President Bush.

There has already been widespread outrage among the blogosphere but the mainstream media has unsurprisingly been quiet on this issue of HR 1955. It's up to you to force his bill into the mainstream and fight this blatant disregard of civil liberties.

HR 1955 passed in the House of Representatives by roll call vote. The fact that the vote was 'held under a suspension of the rules to cut debate short and pass the bill should automatically raise red flags as to exactly why this bill, much like the dreaded Patriot Act, was hoodwinked into law.

If you visit the Committee On Homeland Security's Website, there is a fact sheet that attempts to dispel so-called concerns and 'myths' of HR 1955. The committee contends that there are no nefarious intentions of the implementation of this bill, and the committee will simply "study violent radicalization and homegrown terrorism using a method that has worked in the past," prior to September 11, 2001. That method was the establishment of a National Commission on Terrorism.

Now, correct me if I am wrong, but the committee's National Commission on Terrorism failed miserably to stop the attacks of 9/11, so why should we trust them to continue to implement a method that as a known track record of failure?
