War Made Easy

The fifth anniversary of the Iraq War has come and gone. Like the birthday of a loved one that has passed away, the war was noted quietly and with little fanfare.

The three-letter news network news models were awkwardly forced to report on and defend President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney repeat the same Iraq War rhetoric we've been hearing since 2002, while warning of Iran's weapons of mass destruction.

Dick Cheney, being interviewed by Good Morning America's White House correspondent Martha Raddatz, smugly replied, "So," when asked to comment on the fact that two-thirds of Americans feel that the war is no longer worth fighting. Later on in another interview, Cheney repeated the debunked claim that Saddam Huessien had ties to Al Qaeda to the same media that has been forced to perpetrate the lie.

Senator John McCain, the political chameleon, seems exists in the same alternate reality where the war just couldn't be going any better. On the same day that suicide bombs killed sixty-one Iraqis and four US Marines he exclaimed, "We're succeeding. I don't care what anybody says. I've seen the facts on the ground."

On a day when more and more Americans are being squeezed by rising costs of living with no relief in sight, Bush proudly announces, "One day, people will look back at this moment in history and say, ‘Thank God there were courageous people willing to serve because they laid the foundation for peace for generations to come."

I can't believe it's been 5 years....4,000 American deaths... 8000 Iraqi soldiers and at least 10 times that in civilian deaths? ridiculous, depressing, heart-breaking. It makes me so mad to think of it, and Cheney's "So?" just adding insult to injury. Gah!
